Who We Are

The Columbia Chapter of Health Physics Society (CCHPS) is a professional organization whose members are specialists in radiation safety. Every year, the CCHPS members participate in various public outreach activities, including: Columbia Basin Engineering Science Fair, STEMCon, and Celebration of Science. Our primary goal is to increase public awareness about the benefits and risks associated with ionizing radiation.

Our objectives

The primary objectives of the CCHPS are to: (i) aid in the work of health physics and the dissemination of information between individuals in this field and related fields, (ii) improve public understanding of the problems and needs in radiation protection, (iii) promote health physics as a profession, and (iv) promote within the Chapter's jurisdiction the activities of the Health Physics Society.

Technical Meetings

The Chapter offers its members educational and training opportunities through conferences, workshops, and technical meetings.

The Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society offers scholarship to students in a health physics-related educational path at an accredited institution.

Every year the CCHPS honors individuals who have been selected by the Awards Committee members to be recognized for accomplishments and actions that meet the criteria of one of the CCHPS awards.

Health Physics Training

The Columbia Chapter of the Health Physics Society offers a 13-week course for individuals preparing for the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) Part I and II certification exam and for those who want a refresher course in health physics.
